Sounds like you've boken off something inside the RJ45 network connector, so your network cable connector doesn't make proper contact. So long as it's just a piece of plastic, you may stand a chance of jerry-rigging something with a toothpick/popsicle stick/etc.

However, if you have a free PCMCIA/Cardbus slot, it may be simpler just to buy a network adapter like these http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=13983731 or if you don't have a free slot, a USB network adapter will do the trick http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_pc...pter&x=14&y=12
