Opinion of itinerary?
Having looked into it I think :

          How much would a taxi be between Malacca and Singapore. Can one cross over to Singapore anytime or does the border close at night?

          Should I buy my train ticket(s) when I arrive or use the Malaysian State Railway website to buy one online (Not that I have figured out how to use the site. It does seem not very user friendly)?

          With the basic iitinerary what would you add to it or advise me are must does. Especially in a gastronomic sense ;-)
