Russia allows dual citizenship, so it should not be a problem in this case.

Somewhat unrelated: If someone has a Ukrainian/US citizenship, they may encounter problems entering Ukraine, as Ukraine doesn't recognize dual citizenship, so coming from the US, one may need to enter and leave Ukraine on the US passport and enter Russia on a Russian passport. If you fly, it may be difficult to do this. A train ride would not be a problem, however.
