I wouldn't say one gets "missinformation" when calling. THey should know the procedures and details. If you aren't satisfied with answer, call again and ask someone else. FT members can give you information, but sometimes it will be incorrect as well. If you tell the rep you read it on FT, that isn't very safe as well.
