Assuming that the checksum works out, yes, the integrity of the file should be the same. Still, should a single "block" of the optical media decide to fail or otherwise be irrecoverably damaged getting back to it would be much worse if it is a PDF or JPG than if it is an MPEG file. Losing 4K or even 512 bytes of a PDF (i.e. 512 or 4096 characters) is way worse than dropping a frame of a video.
Optical isn't bad, per se, but there are things about it that make other technologies generally more reliable.
