Birdstrike--data is more sensitive to scratches than video, unfortunately. What might be recoverable via error correction on a video disc may not be for a data disc.
The biggest wildcards with disc burning= the quality of the media and the quality of the burner. Depending upon the mix of the two, will you get a "good", minimal error burn, or a "bad" disc filled with errors.
If you take the time to burn with data verify enabled, that will confirm the readability of the disc at the time when your burn is complete. However, this adds tons of time to the process...
