I love the Affinia chain. I think a lot of people ignore it because the hotels are listed as three-star, I presume because they don't have restaurants. But the rooms are very much four-star quality, and in fact, better than most NY four-stars since the Affinia properties are well-renovated and maintained. Amenities for the business traveler are very well thought out (room lighting, outlets, fitness center, etc.) There are several locations around Manhattan. Staff tend to be extremely friendly and, as others have said, the rooms are very large by NY standards. Not all of them have kitchenettes, but if you get one, it's very handy.
