The bonus numbers were widely bandied about towards the end of last year, early this year, especially with the surprise announcements that many workers at firms with huge losses still got bonuses. It was for city FINANCIAL workers, that qualify for bonuses, not train workers or whatever.
Raffles, regarding the Halifax numbers, which were for the UK, not London (so I would suppose that mansions in Hertfordhire, Oxfordshire, etc would not be included - I cited London), I would also take them with a grain of salt as Halifax is now the number one target of dubious numbers at the moment and is being singled out for its "hypng" of the market (and is going bust as a result). The 1200 or so number, I actually recall it as 1213 or so, was a pretty solid number which was quietly bandied about when discussions of Gordon Browns minimum taxing of non-doms first came out.
Furthermore, citing global numbers for Lehman or Goldman is pointless as the numbers you cite are not UK specific, nor do they cite what the ratio of low to high earners are/were
