These are arithmetic means - a relatively small number of people at the top will be making astronomical amounts of money. The median would be much, much lower - which means that the "average" secretary, administrator etc is not making much more at GS than they would at another organisation. I'm not defending compensation at the top end, but it's an absolute myth that every investment bank employee has a huge income.
