I suppose that we could go back to a regulated environment. The fares would be triple the current level and the aviation industry would be MUCH smaller. But we might still have meals on the plane (that people have ALWAYS complained about). There was always a charge for IFE (probably would be $10 now for tubular headphones). No FF programs or First Class upgrades -- unless you knew the GA.
I don't want them tinkering with the fees. I want them to require airlines to list the total price of fees that are the same for everyone, when fares are retrieved via search. This puts the airline on the same playing field. I don't believe baggage fees need to be part of this "advertised" price, since they vary per traveler (some will check 0, some 1, etc)
