Difference between FIM and Paper Ticket During Irregular Operations

I was stuck in NRT for 3 days due to weather in TPE. UA printed out the tickets and endorsed them to YY for most of us. Some seemed to got the manually written FIM (flight interruption/irregularity manifest) instead.

I am curious why the difference and which one would be a more "preferred currency" by other airlines when trying to get onto other flights.

Thanks.
