I was behind a woman today in PHL, who clearly does not, or has not traveled in quite some time. She had multiple bags (4 or 5) all of which were overweight... I heard the AA GA tell her it would cost her $500 to check her bags. And that was after she removed over 5 pounds of stuff from three of them to get them below 100 pounds. The traveler was a bit surprised to say the least.. I mean, my ticket didn't even cost $500.

I didn't stay to see what happened, but I think she really had no choice but to cough up the $500.
