Deciphering the Greek Islands
Hi all,
Firstly, this is my first post on FlyerTalk. I've been snooping for a while (mostly in this section) and haven't really had a need to post until now. The Greek Islands are doing my head in and the more I look the more indecisive I become!
We're looking at late May. We've got flights booked to Europe (our agent got a great J fare on EK) and we'll be finishing in Greece. So far we're looking at doing five nights Athens, three Kyllini and three Nafplion. After that we'll head to the islands and looking at Crete, Santorini and Mykonos. We thought about Corfu, but I'm not sure it fits in easily (the Grecotel Corfu Imperial seems the best there).
What I want in the island resorts is a one-bedroom villa (prefer stand alone, but can be duplex style), waterfront or beachfront with a private pool. We want somewhere quite exclusive that won't be overrun with families or 'Eurotrash'. We're also fans of modern design or at least properties with quite a clean, contempory feel to them. Privacy is important (hence the private pools) but a great pool scene would be nice and we'll take a hit on the quality of the resort's beach if the main pool is quite good. Re budget, I'll just say I'm aware of what to expect for what I want.
For Crete, I've been suggested the Grecotel Amirandes (are the 'Exclusive' range a safe bet in Greece?), the Oh! All-Suite Hotel at Capsis Out of the Blue (read somewhere it is like a high security Russian compound) or the Elounda Peninsula All Suite Hotel (friends have said this was okay).
For Santorini, I think I'm almost set on Mystique. I've also been thinking about Katikies or Kirini.
For Mykonos, I've been suggested so many different resorts. At the moment leaning towards Mykonos Grand or Mykonos Blu, but have been suggested to think about Kivotos or Mykonos Grace.
Hopefully there is a Greece expert who can offer some insight or reccommendations. I realise this post is a little vague and all over the place so let me know if you need some more info.
