As I posted in another thread, I've actually shipped bags, but to get decent prices ($35) requires you to ship ground. I've done 2-day air as well for a ~45 lb suitcase with decent insurance for around $120 as well.
The increase in excess baggage fees still stinks, but $50 isn't out of line.
