Yes, for various reasons. Apparently the OP already has separate PNR's. so that not an issue. However, if the tickets were already purchased on a single PNR, I doubt AA would split the PNR simply because someone wanted to avoid the appearance they were traveling with a passenger that would void their ability to sit in an exit row.
