My Polish stepmother had a saying for this:
"If someone gives you a horse, don't look at it's teeth."
The couple times I got one were domestic. Both times were absolutely delightful. One was in an empty F cabin on Thanksgiving evening, where the FA came in close and told me to have a wonderful time with family. The other was with one of the most gracious, caring, thoughtful FA's I've ever experienced, who first asked, in a kind of ironic way, whether one of us in 1DF was plat, and then put two bottles in the overhead for both of us to take with. I hope I'm not, um, extinguishing the goose constituted of precious metal by posting this. Both were done very caringly and discretely, and had HUGELY positive effect.
