A belated post from me to say thank you to Jenbel for organising a superb weekend, and to everyone else who also helped to make it such a fun and enjoyable event in a very interesting place - particularly Moomba for helping with the recce, and all the drivers who bravely volunteered to run the gauntlet of the island roads. (I think I managed to get chauffeured in every car at some stage!)
I suspect that without a trip such as this, I might never have got to Orkney - and I would have missed out on seeing the archaeological sights; learning how to make whisky; and debating whether or not to venture into a bar from which we'd just seen Kirkwall's finest remove two yoofs in handcuffs.
The charter flight was definitely a high point. As I was lucky enough to be allocated to do it on the sunny day, the scenery was pretty stunning. Being able to put WRY-PPW in the log became a complete sideshow.
This really was an example of FT at its absolute best: Organisers who put a huge amount into making sure that everything would work well; and a trip that provided great company (with friends old and new), good conversation, interesting things to see and do, and much laughter and fun. Even if none of us managed that ice cream sundae!
