The Iberia staff used to find it too much hassle to argue as they usually didn't speak much English!
I have never had a problem with the lounge dragons at MAD, whether I'm speaking to them in English or Spanish.
However, the check-in dragons (those guarding the line, rather than at the desks) have improved immeasurably of late, as I mentioned in another thread. Is this all part of the same change? If so: ^^
