Tamron didn't even issue their press release about this lens until late July, so you probably wouldn't have seen it in June.

As I mentioned in my above post, this lens becomes available on September 20th in Japan. I have only seen one Japanese website offering it for 69800 yen.

Both Amazon ($600) and Adorama ($630) are taking pre-orders for the lens right now. It looks like initially it will only be available for Canon and Nikon mounts.

I'm anxious to see some reviews on this lens and see if it matches up to the 18-250.
