I just returned from 3 weeks in Argentina. My last trip was 2 years ago. Hotels have doubled in price. Restaurant meals have almost doubled. Everything from taxis, to newpapers to souvenirs has increased dramatically in price. I used to purchase a few cashmere scarves for gifts on Florida Street. They were 24 pesos for a few years or about 8 dollars. I bought 10 of them and when I returned I could hand out "cashmere" scarves from my trip. This year I checked and they want 49 pesos for the same scarf or 16 dollars a scarf. Not such a good deal. I think the tourist cost of living in BA and the high airfares will begin to slow the number of tourists and kill one of the gooses that was laying golden eggs for argentina. I also think their economy is in for an adjustment and that could mean lower prices but at what cost to locals?
