My SFO-LHR-SFO flights DON'T clear until the week of the flight. This has now happend 5 times, so I don't see this as being out of the ordinary.

Do you still see revenue seats on Seatmap.com

Also if you look online you do see your itinerary waitlisted for the upgrade? If so the only other fluke is making sure you are on the right waitlist.

Calling in every once in a while may yield a seat that opens up but yet isn't on the auto upgrade list inventory.

PS: Right now I'm waitlisted (I'm a 1K) on one of the SFO-LHR flights on the 24th of this month). Seatmap.com shows 37 unassigned seats. So my odds are fairly high this will clear.
