An interesting perspective for AF should be the possibility to beef up the LYS hub. The TGV station there is notoriously underused, yet by 2012 (thanks notably to the future Rhin-Rhone line, and later extensions of TGV med) it will be less than 2 hours away from most of eastern and south-eastern France, as well as western Switzerland and southwest Germany.
Gosh I sure wish they would utilize the LYS station (it's a spoke, not a hub). But people have been complaining about this for years and the locals know it is all about politics. None of the population that LYS serves can reach the airport by train. It is a true shame and one of the worst examples of a European airport in this respect.
