Shalwar Kameez

I have a half dozen sets of shalwar kameez that I bought in Pakistan and Afghanistan, variety of colors and styles. I wore them over there because they meet the locally acceptable modesty requirements and they are very comfortable. I sometimes wear them here in the US too, in casual settings, where I always get lots of interested comments from others: Are they comfortable? Where did you get them? Could I get them too?

Though they are perfect for comfort on long plane trips, I do not wear them through the airport. Guaranteed haraSSSSment by the TSA for being a suspected "terrorist" (I am a middle-aged white woman born and raised in the US with a very British-Scandinavian name).

I have three children's ethnic outfits from places I have visited. They are lovely handmade items which I had framed in shadow boxes to hang as a set. Really nice souvenirs to look at every day and bring back great memories, plus this eliminates the enthusiastic purchase which then hangs in the closet unworn except for Halloween costume parties.
