I kept my United loyalty while living in Manila for 2 years. There is a UAL ticketing office in Manila and they could usually get me a reasonable price to the US by flying Cathay to Hong Kong and then changing to UA flights. The Red Carpet lounge in Hong Kong was always nice to wait in - nice munchies and free internet computers to catch up on email, FlyerTalk, etc.
