That seems pretty accurate. I flew on an A330 last Dec, FRA-PHL. Originally I was assigned a seat in the front section. But I had problems with a MUC-FRA flight, and didn't check-in until just before boarding (and it was pretty close), and they reassigned me to the back.
I think they assigned me to the G/H side, around row 24 or 25. There was someone next to me, and it was tight just sitting, and I'm not a tall or large person (about 6' and 180# at the time). Just before takeoff, I noticed the bulkhead middle section was vacant, and I moved to 23F. I did have some problems with people hitting the seat on their way to/fr the restroom...but I mostly solved that by angling the personal tv unit so they'd hit that instead of me.
And the ends of that bulkhead (23AB, 23GH) were crew rest areas. There was a drape that wrapped around. A few pax tried to move there when the scattering started, but were scolded by the FA's.
It seemed like the front section was more full, while the back wasn't. So pax in the back were able to spread out, while those in the 'better' seats didn't even know what they were missing.
Personally, I thought the 767 on the way over (PHL-MUC) was the better ride, although the entertainment system was a large screen at the front of the cabin.
