I know that this information is pretty old, google "Nintendo DS lite crack", but I wanted to advise that I was still able to get Nintendo to repair for free if your unit was manufactured in 2006.

We got a DS lite unit as a gift in Xmas 2006. Over time, we noticed a small a crack in the upper right corner near power LED and R button. The crack on the hinge eventually broke and right hinge broke off.

If you call Nintendo, they want $75 to repair as out of warranty...another agent offered me a discount of $50 once she looked up SN...I quoted that I read on the Internet of others with similiar problem and she waived the repair fee and Fed Ex shipping fee to them.

It took longer to get the unit to them via fed ex ground than to repair. The agent told me she would swap our unit out for a refurb but in the end, they repaired the DS the same day they received it and we had it back two days later!
