Sorry, but what happened to you could happen to anyone. I doubt Emirates, or any airline, would contact you out of goodwill. I also highly doubt you will get a refund and fail to see how you are entitled to one. I suggest you contact your travel insurance company to regain any expense the delay cost you.

We all hate it when delays happen. I've been delayed in Sydney by Qantas for five hours before they decided to get a new plane (five hours would have been enough for my flight, my time through customs in AKL, plus my drive home). The new plane had to make it back to SYD before curfew so there was limited food during the flight - even in business. Our compensation? A voucher to buy food in SYD.
