Advice?

I just moved to SAT from DC and have been United 1P (gold) the last few years). The service on UA for me has been abysmal the last 6 months (delayed luggage by days, not hours -- including a direct one hour flight), canceled flights for "pilot not showing up," and the inability to use miles on any other Star Alliance airline (starnet), Indian call center for Gold members who dont know the difference between West Palm Beach and Palm Springs. I've been pushed over the top and was planning on asking CO for a status match. I basically will never fly 100,000, so I havent and wont be 1K (who I believe is the only group treated well by UA). If I typically fly 50,000+ miles, I dont see the problem in sticking with Gold with CO (I dont think I'd go to CO if I were just going to be silver). Thoughts? Thanks!!!
