I would second the recommendation about Butler's Townhouse if you plan on staying in Dublin - the staff are extremely friendly, rooms are nice and breakfast is good. If you're staying there you're fairly near a few pubs that are slightly more like locals than any of the ones in the city centre (apart from Mulligans of Poolbeg Street). Slattery's and Ryans are in Beggars Bush which is fairly close to Butlers - Slattery's would be my favourite of the two.
I am so going to remember this post for our next trip. Beggars Bush is where Dave King grew up from Flogging Molly. I love local pubs.
