I flew on a new-config 744 last week. The projector is gone; there is now a large LCD screen on the primary central bulkhead, and two smaller LCD screens on the side bulkheads. There may have been some LCD screens hanging in the aisles, as well - I don't remember that very clearly.
No personal screens, but no more projector, either...
