Midwest Air reports August slump
Midwest Air Group Inc., which operates Midwest Airlines and Midwest Connect, reported today a 23.3% decline in its August traffic compared with August 2007.

The drop occurred in revenue passenger miles, which measures the number of passengers multiplied by the number of miles they fly. That performance measure dropped 5.9% for the first eight months of the year.

The company's load factor, which measures the proportion of seats filled on its flights, was 77.4% in August, down from 82%. The load factor was 75.9% for the first eight months, compared with 80%.

Midwest and other carriers have seen air travel drop because of the economic slowdown. The company's new fall schedule, which takes effect today, has a 40% reduction in service, and the company is cutting its workforce by a similar share.
I think some bad PR is playing into these numbers. I hope Midwest can repair that damage too.
