No. Seats are computer allocated. Its a system much favoured by QF freq flyers as we have a good chance of getting a seat allocated according to seat prefernce in QF ffp profile, You can always phone QF to request a change in seat allocation
The system you are referring to is for domestic. It is possible to pre-allocate on international services just not domestic where you play the status and fare bucket lottery where the higher the fare class and the more status (QF or OW) you have the closer you will be to the front the plane and the less chance of a middle seat you will have.
