What to ask for...Several Hour Delay and No Baggage for 5 Days
On 8/1/08 I flew LGA-ATL-MGA my flight out of LGA was delayed by about an hour. I had a quick connection in ATL so I sprinted to the gate because the monitors said "Boarding". When I arrived at the gate there was no plane and the monitors declared that there had been a gate change. I than ran to the next gate only to find the same situation.
Instead of running to yet another gate I went into the CRC to ask about the situation. I was informed that the plane had yet to arrive and that they would inform me when in fact boarding had begun. The ATL-MGA flight kept flipping on and off the monitors requiring the CRC folks to call different gates every time, in Delta's defense the ATL CRC staff was lovely. Eventually we boarded after a delay of around 3-4 hours. The plane was further delayed one on board due to 'Balance' issues. When I landed in MGA I learned these issues were apparently solved by removing my baggage and that of a 3 or 4 other pax. It was 2 AM in Managua (the flight was scheduled to land at 10PM) so I missed my ground connection to Leon, Nicaragua where I had a prepaid apartment. The delay required me to stay in a hotel close to the airport costing me around $90. It took Delta 5 days to get my baggage to my hotel in Leon so I needed to buy new clothing and toiletries locally. The airport staff in MGA refused to help me in anyway saying I would need to deal with Delta upon my return to the US. My return flight was without issue.
I was booked in F on a reward ticket, what if anything do you think I should be entitled to?
