Had a strange thing happen to me a while back. I was flying SLC->DEN on a monday morning e-fare (i.e. last-minute el-cheapo) and when I checked in found I was seated in 1A.

At first I thought this was great, but then realized they burned off one of my 500 mile segments which was due to expire in about a month.

I like surprises, but should they not have at least asked me if I wanted to burn the upgrade?
