And I'll repeat it again, ALL passengers -- visitors, green-card holders, visa holders, and US passport holders are ALL asked the purpose of the trip on EVERY arrival. It's a question on the landing card, and its considered mandatory to respond to it.. Just because something is "obvious" doesn't mean the morons at CBP don't ask it.
