I think you are slightly confused...the OP did not say that he was a permanent resident, he said he was a "legal (alien) resident". There is a very big difference there. He is a legal resident as long as the E-2 visa is valid but he does not have permanent resident status. The OP is not guaranteed entrance into the U.S. unlike a permanent resident. That is why his questions were valid and not confusing.
