I don't know a whole lot about this, but the B744 number must be slightly off I would think (it indicates only 5 in service & not parked). UA is still flying 744's from SFO/LAX to SFO which needs 4 planes, and then they fly to NRT from SFO (right now twice per day) and ORD using 744's only. That must take at least another 3 planes or so (assuming they use 1 plane per route, which I believe is incorrect because 744's also continue on to ICN for the moment). So at least 7 B744 planes must be in service - maybe a few more?
