A couple of thousand points?!? Wow, it is no wonder my balance is low compared to some others. I would never have even thought to ask for compensation because the hot water had to be turned off. I mean hotels have to do maintenance sometimes.

If you want 2K points from a "third rate" Sheraton, what do get from the Four Seasons when their plumbing goes kaput?

I won't be asking for compensation in the future either, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it, but we are all different, so good luck if it works for you.
