It works
I have a TomTom 910 for about 3 years (IIRC) now and never had any problems navigating from country to country at least in europe

Mine shows me the whole route.

Brussels to Rome takes you approximately 13h 57m (1482 km / 920 miles)
Brussels to Vienna takes you approximately 9h 50m (1106 km / 687 miles)
