Absolutely agreed. She's already quite comfortable with the city, having gone to college nearby for the last four years, spent summers here and frequently traveled to and around the city to visit family and whatnot.
It's actually very interesting to see the drastically differing opinions. My mom, who grew up in the East 60s in the 1960s (but hasn't lived in the city since then), flipped when she saw my sister's new Williamsburg apartment the other day and almost made her break her lease (Razor wire on the block and bars on the windows!!!) until my sister walked her around to show her some gentrification. Meanwhile I was eating at a sidewalk cafe the other day in Soho and an older fellow walking by helpfully (IMO) suggested to a 20-something girl at the next table that she might not want to have her purse sitting on a chair exposed to the sidewalk. The girl responded all haughty: "I live here. I know what I'm doing." So I guess there are people at all extremes of the spectrum.
