It's expensive ($140 p.y.), but if you fly enough it can be waived, and as a 1K you are likely to be there. Note that unlike the other MP cards this one doesn't automatically waive the fee if you reach 1K--apparently the have some formula of your miles flown + spend. Mine was waived this year but not last year. Also this is not a card you want to carry a balance on (I pay mine off every month).
From my (limited) experience and based on what I read here, you get $60 of the fee waived for being a 1K (those who were card members before a certain date -- Nov 2006?) get full waiver on their card.
At 50K spend you will get 5K EQM
$35K spend (again for me and based on what I read here).
