Some airlines like QF are absolutely inflexible, but UA has a pretty good reputation on that score.

My Dad just passed away 5 August, and I could never convince him to come out here, so he doesn't have that problem of excess miles. I, on the other hand, am stuck trying to get out on short notice during the summer travel season. On the bright side, the Business Class ticket I had to buy will put me over the PremEx threshhold again.
