Until the average airline employee has a good working environment and is fairly paid for the work they do, there will never be a “customer first attitude” no matter what uniform they are wearing. Until then, most will give the absolute minimum and their customer’s will never feel totally welcome aboard!
Actually the situation of these contract workers and the FAs/Pilots are completely different. The FAs/Pilots have had their pay, benefits, pensions, etc slashed as time has gone on. They started in one situation and have ended up in another. The contract workers on the other hand knew what the position paid, knew there werent benefits involved, etc but yet they still took the jobs.

In any case, what you said in your second statement is very true about airline employees today (with any airline or really with any customer service business for that matter). You have to take care of your employees or they won't necessarily take care of your customers. However I will say this, if you don't like your job, go find another. Yes I know that many airline employees amongst the airlines have been at it for many years so of course changing jobs/careers at this point is easier said then done but its still an option.
