Agree 100% Also, I don't think they actually let you into the Int'l terminal until your within 4 hours of your flight. I was there a couple of months ago and the area outside the terminal was packed with people who were killing time, waiting to get in.
This is not true.
Who is "they", btw?
The people outside are simply not allowed in, because they are not passengers. Others may be waiting for their relatives to arrive and see them off. The remaining are the relatives/friends, thronging the entrances.

There is absolutely no reason to get to the airport more than 2 hours prior to your flight. Just make sure you bring a couple hundred rupees to "facilitate" your quick movement through the gaggle of lines
Well, I was quite surprised to see a new bar opened up near Gate 13-16, with a coffee bar nearby, both looking quite attractive... (I never bothered to try them, but others can report on this!)
