This is the best advice. While frustrating you can't see the seats before purchasing, that is a discussion for another day. To resolve this issue for your upcoming flight, call UA and say you're thinking about purchasing E+ but first want to know if you can get an aisle (or whatever you specifically want) and have them confirm.
Thanks - I called however they said they could not tell until 24 hours before departure crazy to think UA wants to have more money in their pocket yet you cannot see what is available.
