My search for this issue did not turn up a clear answer. I usually pay for travel expenses such as airlines tickets with an amex plat card because of the generous travel insurance coverage. However, I am unsure if this coverage would extend to (international) award tickets when only taxes and fees were paid. Our trips will last about 5 weeks. Would I need to purchase trip insurance being offered by amex, or others? Any insights/recommendations would be appreciated.
