They even waived the fee for changing the reservation (which is normally $15 if you have booked through a travel agent). She did need to check with a supervisor though. It is true though that you cannot do this through AA.com.
I've found the AA agents very variable, some knowing what to do with requests like this and others who say it's not possible. A usual, polite request to check with the supervisor then sorts it out.
As an aside, have just returned from 9 sectors on AA and I was told on one occasion that whilst my BA EC number was in the system it did always show on the BP. A quick bit of typing by the agent sorted this so that Emerald and my BA number appeared on the BP.
