My UK passport, even when issued by the British Embassy in Paris, states the name of the town and the name of the county.

When I have to fill in French forms which include the department where I was born - a very French thing, consisting of two numbers, I have to fill in 999 to make the form 'work' and to show that I was not born anywhere in France ... though I still have to name the town!!
