Reduced flight schedules hurting your commute?

I was just looking to book a trip next week between PDX and SFO -- a route I fly regularly as a day trip to visit HQ from my home office in PDX.

For the past few years, I've taken a 6am flight from PDX and returned on one of several flights that has departed between 5:45 and 9pm; there have been periods where there were flights at 5:30, 7pm and 9pm and times there were flights at 6pm and 8pm, but there were options that let me work a full day in the Bay Area before catching the flight home.

When I checked the flight schedules for September, I notice that United only has flights at 5:50 and 10:30pm (at least on the weekdays when I travel, weekends seem to have some other options). This is less than ideal, as it will require me to leave my San Rafael office before 4pm -- or not get home until well after midnight.

I recognize that United is hemorrhaging money and is cutting routes to save money, but if their schedule becomes such that it is no longer convenient or even *somewhat* convenient I'll be forced over to Alaska and their "westmost" schedule. With an average ticket price this year in the $350 range for my PDX-SFO trips, I know that I'm generating revenue for United, so am afraid how these reductions in service will really hurt more than help.

I'm curious, are other commutes being impacted by these reduced flight schedules?
