The agent was definately wrong in charging you the checked baggage fee since you're a Star Silver. However, I think some of the responsibility for this lies in your hands a well. I am by no means defending US, the agent definately shoud have known better, but if you had known the rules prior to going to the airport all this could have been avoided by simply saying "I'm sorry I was under the impression from your website that Star Alliance Silver memebers are exempt from the baggage fees, can I speak to your supervisor?" That's just my humble opinion though and, of course, YMMV.
Sorry USPhilly - you are USsilly. They must know the rules -- do you propose we should also correct the pilot when we think he is wrong?, and who else do we need to correct this way - as is I need to do it about 375 times a day - enough of that unreasonable argument.
